History of Gwadar:
Feroz Khan Noon was the seventh prime minister of Pakistan. It was he and his wife Viqar ul Nisa Noon who secured Gwadar, with their efforts and brought it under Pakistan’s dominion.
Viqar ul Nisa Noon
Viqar ul Nisa was known as Victoria in British circles. A lady of courage, who worked hard in London in 1956 to get British PM and parliament’s approval for British colony Oman to give custody of Gwadar to Pakistan.
Shah of Iran
The Shah of Iran was new to thrown and CIA was having Nixon talk to Harold Macmillan to give Gwadar to the shah of Iran. Victoria saw Americans pushing for Iran over Pakistan and intercepted the lobby head-on. She even went to Winston Churchill, a champion in making ‘Pakistan’ who lobbied too for ‘ Gwadar port’ to be given to Pakistan.
Today, after 62 years, the Pakistani establishment and Generals are racing against civilians, counting Gwadar port as “Golden Hen” being Pakistan’s only deep port for heavy oil tankers and cargo ships for CPEC.
It is Pakistan’s pride and joy, yet no politician, no media channel no books of history or Pakistan Studies, tells us how Viqar ul Nisa Noon (Victoria) and her husband Feroze Khan Noon worked with English PM and parliament to get Gwadar for Pakistan.
These million of Acres were won for Pakistan by true Pakistani loyalists who used pen and not a sword. Ideally, we must acknowledge this Fact by commemorating a plaque in Gwadar:
” this port and land are dedicated to the great people and Sultan of Oman for their Gift and loyal Pakistanis who worked hard to get Gwadar for Pakistan.”
Special thanks to Lady Viqar ul nisa Noon for her personal dedication and efforts for lobbying at British parliament in 1956.
Let us also not forget Prince Karim Aga Khan, who paid entire amount on behalf of Pakistan for Gwadar to Sultan of Oman.
“From Memory” is the title of the autobiography of Feroz Khan Noon which was published posthumously by National Book Foundation in1993. In this book, Feroz Khan narrates in detail that how Gwadar was reclaimed from Sultanate of Oman.
