Hafiz Abdul Karim: Federal Minister for Communication said that it would just be a matter of time that far-off-cities like Peshawar and Lahore would be connected to Karachi and Gwadar via motorway.
He said this while talking to the reporters on Friday in Multan at the NHA Complex. He informed that thirteen motorway projects costing rupees 1.3 trillion are under process in various parts of the country.
These projects are expected to get complete within the span of next two years, which would make the complete length of the motorway network in the nation to approximately around two thousand four hundred kilometers.He added that this year the projects that would be completed include the Lyari Expressway of thirty-two kilometers, Rathodero-Khuzdar Motorway (M-8), Hazara Motorway (E-35) and Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway of one hundred and thirty-six kilometres.
Similarly, many other significant projects that are under construction would be reaching completion in 2018 which includes Gojra-Shorkot of sixty-two kilometers, Lahore-Abdul hakim Motorway of two hundred and thirty kilometres, Shorkot-Khanewal od sixty-five kilometers and Dera Ismail Khan-Hakla Section of the Western Corridor of two hundred and eighty-five kilometers, Chakdara-Kalam Highway and Lahore Eastern Bypass of sixteen kilometers.
The Federal Minister informed that three projects namely Gilgit-Shindor-Chitral of three hundred and sixty-four kilometres, Naukundi-Mushkel-Panjhur of ninety kilometres and Mirpur-Muzaffarabad-Manshera of two hundred and twenty-eight kilometres would be made a part of CPEC project list in the upcoming JCC meeting. He also told that the two sections of the Multan-Sukkur Motorway and Havelian-Mansera of thirty-nine kilometres would be finishing before the June of 2018.
First time in history of Pakistan:
The minister informed that it was the first time in history of Pakistan that highway projects approximately of rupees three hundred and fifty billion have been granted on Built-Operate-Transfer basis via the active participation of the private sector. This includes the Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) and the up gradation of the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway. He indicated that It is expected that the earnings from these projects would be over rupees three hundred billion.
The Multan-Lahore Motorway would be fully operational and open for routine public traffic by April 2018 as the government has ordered speedy and early completion of this project.
